Speaking recently at the Skills Show in Birmingham, Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister has said the UK has been “held back for too long” by outdated perceptions about apprenticeships and vocational education.

He called for vocational education to be held in the same regard as academic education, saying that, while it was “great” that more young people were progressing to higher education at university, it was important that more people also continued to take up apprenticeships.

The number of apprenticeships in this Parliament have pretty much doubled (to two million) and this will continue to be a huge priority for the Government.
