Technical Certificates Focus on the knowledge and understanding that underpins the competencies of an NVQ proving that an Apprentice understands the theory behind the job as well as being able to carry out the practical tasks.  They may also cover wider aspects of the chosen occupation or sector.  They include BTEC or City & Guilds qualifications.

Key Skills & Technical Certificates

All Apprenticeships recognise the importance of Key Skills to assess:
Communication - to improve discussion, speaking, listening and writing.
Application of Number - to use numeracy confidently and effectively.
ICT - to use technology to process, store and retrieve information.
Working with Others.
Improving own Learning and Performance.
Problem Solving.
Employers look for job applicants with key skills as they play a vital role in the workplace.  Key skills help applying for university with UCAS points - Level 2 = 10 points - Level 3 = 20 points - Level 4 = 30 points.

The first three key skills are assessed through a portfolio of your work and an external test marked by an awarding body. The wider key skills are assessed through your portolio without a test.
