Controlling Career Choices

We often discover our strengths and weaknesses through trial and error.  GCSE studies highlight subjects we enjoy, often resulting in our best grades, compared to those we don’t enjoy and struggle to come to terms with.  That’s why choosing a route to study for further qualifications should reflect strengths, academically or vocationally, or matched with a particular job or employer requirements.

Nathan Hendry left school with 11 GCSE’s followed by 3 A levels and an AS level from college but he knew the time was right to follow a vocational route and gain real hands-on experience in the workplace.  Nathan needed to establish whether his love of computers could actually lead to a real job and he’s achieved exactly that, employed as ICT Technician at Tudhoe Grange School in Spennymoor.

Within a year, thanks to his willingness to take on varied responsibilities in school he’s completed an IT Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship and has now started his Level 3 IT Professional Advanced Apprenticeship.  Network Manager, Matt Parcell is totally supportive and rightly proud of Nathan’s progress.  “Nathan has shown excellent progression since starting with us in 2008.  He has proven his abilities through hard work and commitment, and has become a real asset to our team.”

Nathan’s plans for the future could now include university as he has all the credentials he needs to take full control of his career choices.
