Meet the team
I am the Quality Manager for ITEC NE, having had over 30 years experience of managing training provision within local government and many years as an advisory for various training providers I am able to support ITEC NE in the pursuit of its vision for excellence in delivery and quality of service. Previously to ITEC I worked for Sedgefield Borough Council as the Training Services Manager.This role involved overseeing all the council’s training activities for both school leavers and the long term unemployed.
Pet hate – people who use bad language to express themselves.
I’ve been an NVQ assessor for the last 12 years having previously worked in a variety of local government administration roles. I have personal experience of, and am able to deliver training in, business and administration, customer service, team leading and management. This job gives me a chance to meet a wide variety of people and experience all kinds of workplaces and that is what I love about it- I can spend the morning in a doctors surgery, visit a pub manager over a busy lunch period and finish the day observing on a manufacturing shop floor.
My pet hate – workplaces that don’t have the kettle on – mine’s tea, milk, no sugar.
I’ve worked for ITEC NE for many years – the best thing about the job is the diverse group I work with. I feel I learn as much from the students as they learn from me. I have been lucky enough to assess in wedding shops, a micro brewery, a ship yard and a forensic company, to name just a few. Every day is a new place of work.
I have worked as a Learner Recruitment Officer for 8 years. In this role I meet young people aged between 16 and 23 interested in enrolling onto an apprenticeship programmes discussing potential career paths and apprenticeship opportunities. Prior to working for the company I enrolled onto the apprenticeship programme provided by ITEC North East where I completed my own level 2 and 3 Business Administration apprenticeship.
I am a qualified chartered accountant with over 20 years of experience in practice and industry. I started my own accountancy practice in June 2012 and was appointed Finance Manager of ITEC in August 2013. I am responsible for preparing the management accounts, budgeting, payroll and assisting the MD with various other financial matters.
My pet hate is bad drivers and my hobbies include watching/reading up on films.
Commenced working for Itec North East in July 2011 delivering training in Business Administration, ITP, ITQ, Customer Service and Warehousing. Having gained over 20 years experience in an admin/buying background, decided upon a career change in 2008. After attending evening school gained Qualified Teaching Status and a BA (Hons) in Education and Training and commenced working for Bishop Auckland College as an IT Tutor/Assessor.
I started out as an ITEC NE apprentice but for a different employer. A post came up at ITEC so once I had achieved my apprenticeship I applied and was successful. I have been working at ITEC as a Contract Coordinator for 9 years now.
I started at ITEC in 1990 as an Assessor, eventually becoming the IT Manager before leaving a few years ago to gain my PGCE and QTS as a Maths teacher.I returned to support our learners in achieving Maths and ICT functional skills qualifications, as well as assessing learners taking Teaching Assistant courses.
Outside of work, I enjoy collecting, painting and playing table top wargames and I have recently taken up the sport of target archery.Not quite a pet hate: People saying that they’re no good at Maths when what they really mean is that there were some things they found difficult at school.
I have worked in the IT sector for over 10 years. Started working for ITEC as a Work Based Learning Tutor in November 2011 and again in November 2016. Deliver apprenticeships in Computing (Hardware and Software), IT, Social Media and Digital Marketing. I work with young people 16-23 years of age and enjoy aspiring learners to succeed towards their goals. I enjoy seeing young people progress and bettering their careers, education and lives.
I have been a Work Based Learning Tutor for the last 10 years and have a wide range of experience teaching and assessing within the business administration, customer service, team leading and management sectors. I achieved Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) in 2006 and gained a (BA Hons) degree in Education and Training in 2009. I enjoy the variety within my job role visiting learners in their workplace and helping them to achieve their goals.
