IT Apprentice Technician


Daily duties

  • Checking that the Cashless Catering Revaluers are all taking coins and notes and are fully operational, (at the start of each day and after lunch)
  • Monitoring Toner levels on all printers and replacing as required (at the start of each day)

General Duties

  • Answer the telephone
    • Pass any callers onto the relevant member of the IT Team
    • Log jobs in the service desk as required
    • Assist end users to the best of his ability and if necessary escalate to others in the IT Team
  • Change staff and student network passwords as required
  • Checking the condition of the IT equipment in each IT room and report any issues or damage to the Network Manager (at the start of each day and after lunch)
  • At the end of each half term, carrying out an audit on all mobile IT equipment used by each department and report any H & S issues or damage to the Network Manager

IT maintenance and support

  • Pick up jobs from the support desk and write up job log once it has been completed
  • Assisting with auditing of equipment and maintaining the IT Audit records
  • Carry out routine checks on equipment
  • Supporting desktop systems
    • Replace faulty hardware, such as a keyboard or mouse
    • Update software and drivers on client systems
    • Assist with any software issues
    • Assist with any hardware issues
  • Support staff and students in their use of mobile IT Systems
    • Laptops
    • iPads
    • iPods

Any other duties that are considered to be within the scope of his role as an Apprentice IT Technician and which are commensurate with the position.
