4 celebrities who were apprentices

When you think of an Apprenticeship, the idea of a celebrity doing an apprenticeship has probably never crossed your mind. But there are many celebrities, that actually started off their very successful careers with an Apprenticeship in their sector.


Jamie Oliver:

After leaving school at 16 with just two GCSE Jamie attended the Westminster Technical College and gained an NVQ in Home Economics. Once he’d left there, he started Apprenticing at a number of restaurants around London – one of them being Antonio Carluccio’s, starting what would be a long and illustrious career in the food industry.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Sir Ian McKellen:

Sir Ian didn’t go to a drama school like most other big-name actors, but instead, he completed a three-year apprenticeship at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. Going on to star in movies like The Lord of the Rings trilogy and X-Men.

 

 

 

 

 


Sir Alex Ferguson:

Sir Alex who is now recognised as one Britains most successful football managers started his career as an apprentice tool worker in a shipyard. He actually went on to start his own apprenticeship programme at Manchester United, featuring the likes of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs.

 

 

 

 


Stella McCartney:

Despite having a famous father, Stella McCartney wasn’t stopping there and went on to take up an apprenticeship with a tailor on Saville Row when she was a fashion student. Her apprenticeship helped her pick up skills of the trade, sketching patterns and taking up trouser hems. There, she continued to open up an independent boutique in London, climbed the fashion ladder and is now a world-renowned fashion designer.
