SME employers in County Durham are able to access funding to help stimulate employment in the county. Durham County Council are offering a flexible package of employer incentives to create both job and apprenticeship opportunities for unemployed County Durham residents.
Agreement has been reached with the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) for Durham County Council to “top-up” the £1,500 AGE grant with an additional £1,000.
Since November 2011 over 500 apprenticeship starts have been achieved and following a review of the programme it has been agreed to focus on wealth creating sectors that will add the most added value to the local economy. Employers wishing to recruit an unemployed 16 – 24 year old who lives in County Durham with the intention of providing an opportunity to complete an IT qualification at Level 2 or Level 3 will receive £1,000 for DCC in addition to the £1,500 AGE Grant. DCC funding for Business & Administration and Customer Service frameworks will only be available for apprenticeships at Advanced Level 3 and above.
