Responsible to: Network Manager

Working as part of the ICT Support Team, the post holder will assist the team to ensure the continuous, safe and efficient operation of the Academies computer clients and network systems and services. This role will enable the post holder to gain experience and skills within a busy Academy ICT Team.  It will also involve working with students, teachers and support staff on a daily basis promoting the use of ICT across the curriculum.

Job purpose:    To support and maintain the Academies ICT systems and services for effective and safe operation.  Provide support to teachers, staff and students in the appropriate use of ICT.

Duties and responsibilities:

Desktop & Application Support

  • Connect, set up and configure PCs and peripherals for normal operation
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including software builds on machines and setting common configuration options
  • Support and maintain projection systems across the Academy
  • Effectively deal with incoming requests to the service desk, responding to them and escalating those that require the attention of others in the IT Team

Network Systems Support

  • Perform routine  tasks for user accounts
  • Assist in the management of the Academies managed print systems
  • Support the use of wireless technologies such as iPads, iPods and laptops etc
  • Support  the use of the Academies VLE system

Configuration & Installation

  • Follow an acceptance test procedure for new ICT equipment.
  • Update records of installed hardware and software in a central database

Continuity, Maintenance & Security

  • Follow routine maintenance procedures
  • Ensure all newly built systems have anti-virus software installed
  • Report any security issues to the Network Manager

Support Request Management

  • Record accurately support requests, outcomes and time taken in the Academies service desk
  • Investigate requests for support; record diagnostic information, retrieve details of similar requests and either resolve or escalate to the appropriate level

Internal Support Arrangements & External Contracts

  • Work to the Academies support service definition; report on variations to contracted services and escalate contract/warranty issues appropriately
  • The development of the Academies ICT service

Strategy & Planning

  • Identify possible ICT requirements and solutions
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of ICT systems and services

Educational Effectiveness

  • Attend and support staff training sessions, to increase personal understanding of how ICT is used in specific contexts
  • Assist in monitoring current ICT solutions to evaluate how they are impacting on teaching and learning


  • Be an effective communicator with teachers, staff and students in all interactions
  • Support  teachers, students and staff in the use of ICT resources through direct interaction and by producing simple help sheets

Personal ICT Development

  • Work towards a recognised IT qualification directly relating to the post

Health & Safety

  • Carry out basic safety checks
  • Follow relevant H&S procedures and raise awareness among teachers, students and support staff
  • Report any issues to the Network Manager


  • Being aware of and complying with all Academy policies and procedures
  • Undertaking a performance management annual review with the Network Manager
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

In addition to the above to undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post
