ITEC North East are delighted to announce that we have recently sponsored new Biodome at St. Mary’s Primary School in Newton Aycliffe. The Biodome is a 20ft Construction that can be accessed by a class of 30 children to grow plants. It will have a great influence on the students and parents. The Biodome will give the students the opportunity to develop their knowledge of STEM subjects. Curriculum areas covered would include Science, maths, literacy, geography as well as finance and business.
St. Mary’s Students won’t be the only ones reaping the benefits. The vision for the Biodome is to give students the opportunity to grow fresh produce and sell the produce to the parents as well as using the product in the kitchens at the school. This is the only Biodome in the North East. There is the possibility that once established and the staff are trained other schools and the local community could be invited to use the facility receiving input from staff and children at the school.
In conclusion, this is the first project ITEC North East have sponsored in our local community and we hope it isn’t the last. Being in the position to be able to contribute to our local community and the students of St. Mary’s has been an incredibly humbling experience for ourselves and we’re delighted that this is our first. Keep a look out for the date of the opening of the Biodome!
