Muzi signed up to Routeways Youth Employment Initiative programme in March after becoming unemployed. Muzi showed a keen interested in completing a Rope Access Course and changing his career. YEI can support people between 15-29 who live in the Tees Valley area by paying to assist a person getting into training and or employment. Muzi was openly struggling being unemployed, wanting to work, train and improve himself and his prospects.

With the support of ITEC NE YEI Mentor Sharon Hind, she successfully found a rope access course close to where he lives with the connections she had in training around the Tees Valley area. The company had an available space for him to start that was accessible for him to get via public transport which the YEI programme again could support with costs. YEI paid for the course through the spot purchase funds available to help improve his skills and confidence and start a new career – what an opportunity for Muzi to have a fresh start, building a better life for himself.

The direction of the course was several weeks – he had support from the ITEC NE team during that time with reviews, support calls and liaising with the employer to ensure Muzi received the necessary help to settle in and develop the skills required for the role. Sharon then supported Muzi with completing job applications and improving his interview skills. After applying for a job at a local firm he secured employment as a Rigging Technician – YEI purchased a bus pass that would pay for travel over a 4-week period enabling him to get to and from work.

Muzi is really enjoying his new role, new found independence and looking forward to the future!

Well done Muzi, from ITEC NE.
